Agents,
The NIA is excited to announce a new development in XM construct extraction: Overclock. This innovative technology uses Agents’ high-quality Portal Scans to AR mapped Portals, which then enables Agents to collect the output of up to four Portal hacks in a single action. Reality Calibration calibrates our known reality with an alternate reality on the other side of the Portal Network, making it possible to Overclock and maximize item hacks in less than 60 seconds..
The Scanner has been upgraded to enable Reality Calibration on Portals that have sufficient high-quality Portal Scans. Thanks to the Community Scans performed by Agents over the years, hundreds of thousands of Portals are enabled to Overclock, and this coverage will increase as Agents continue to submit new Portal Scans over time.
Starting with Scanner version 2.117, AR mapped Portals will be marked with a gold octahedron. When Agents walk within 20m range of a mapped Portal, a Tesseract appears to indicate Overclock is available. Tapping Overclock allows Agents to access Shaper Glyphs in their four-dimensional geometry, and translate them back into two dimensions for the Scanner via our Command Channel interface.
To successfully run Reality Calibration, Agents on supported devices must enable Niantic Lightship AR and download any required updates. This can be done by launching the Scanner, navigating to the “Settings
“ page, checking the “Enable Niantic Lightship AR
” checkbox and following the instructions.
Successfully completing Reality Calibration and the full Overclock Glyph sequence will return the equivalent of up to four Glyph hacks. If there are only two hacks remaining before the Portal burns out, then Overclock will return the equivalent of two Glyph hacks. This will yield a proportional number of items and AP. For example, if an Agent installs a Common Multi-hack on an AR mapped Portal to increase burnout insulation to eight total hacks, then any Agent can run Overclock on this Portal twice, with each Overclock yielding the equivalent of 4 Glyph hacks and AP.
If Agents are unable to create a strong Reality Calibration connection to the mapped Portal, then the Agent can still use Overclock to practice 4D Shaper Glyphs, but the maximum hack output will be the equivalent of one Glyph hack.
A Portal’s ability to run Overclock may change over time as Portal Scans are collected. New mapped Portals will be added daily. For questions related to Portal Scanning, please refer to this Support article
Overclock may be activated or deactivated on some Portals without prior warning, due to unforeseeable XM fluctuations or Anomalies.
Q & A
Q: Are AR mapped Portals marked differently on Intel Map?
A: Not currently. The NIA is investigating ways to display mapped Portals in the future.
Q: Is there a cooldown period between consecutive Overclock actions, or between a Portal Hack and an Overclock?
A: Yes. Successfully running Reality Calibration and completing Overclock is the equivalent of four Glyph hacks, and normal cooldown applies after Overclock completes. Currently, the cooldown period is 180 seconds on friendly Portals and 300 seconds otherwise.
Q: Would an Overclock action fulfil an Ingress Mission requirement for Portal Hack?
A: Yes
Q: Can I use a Heat Sink to reset my Portal Burnout status after running Overclock?
A: Yes.
Q: Will the effects of Portal Fracker and Battle Beacon boost hack output of Overclock?
A: Yes.
Q: Frackers double hack output for up to 150 hacks. Does an Overclock count as one Hack or multiple Hacks?
A: Successfully running Reality Calibration and completing Overclock is the equivalent to four Glyph hacks.
Q: Will the effects of Portal Mods such as ITO EN Transmuters affect output of an Overclock?
A: Yes.
Q: I usually get only one copy of Media from Portal Hack. Will I get multiple copies of the same Media if I do an Overclock instead?
A: No.
Q: How will the Daily Bonus Hack affect output of an Overclock?
A: If Agents runOverclock on their first hack of the day, the daily hack bonus of 2X or 3X will apply to the equivalent of one Glyph hack, so partial boosted output, out of the up to four Glyph hack equivalent rewards from a successful Reality Calibration and Overclock sequence. The hack output will not be 8X or 12X items of one Glyph hack.
Q: Only a weak Reality Calibration connection is ever possible on a particular mapped Portal. How can I report this?
A: Telemetry is collected when running Reality Calibration so there is no need to manually report your findings; however, submitting more high-quality Portal Scans can help repair a mapped Portal connection strength.
Q: Will there be new Resource Gathering metrics and medals related to Overclock?
A: Not presently.
Q: Will a Portal be mapped immediately after Agents upload a Portal Scan? How long will it take?
A: Portal Scans are anonymized and indexed daily, but reconstructing an AR map takes more than just time. Multiple high-quality Portal Scans taken at different times of day, different lighting conditions, and with different devices will quicken the process. Additionally, it’s important to note that fresh Portal Scans help to ensure our AR mapping of the Portal Network stays current and improves Reality Calibration connection strength.
